Our Founder


Sant Chavara kuriakose Elias has a great vision on eduation in India. He acted with extraordinary courae to meet the challenges of his time. He insisted on opening schools attached to every catholic church, abd ebtrysted thge responsibility of building it up in tune with the needs of the time. Today Kerala is the most literate state in India according to the (UNDP) measurement of human development index, sant Chavara was a moving spirit behind this achievement. Through an integral person-oriented euation he wanted to lay solid foundation for a life long process of growth  in every human being towards a fully human and fully matured individual.

In tune with  the spirit of its founder, the congregation of Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI), with more than 2600 members from Kanyakumari.
The CMI Congregation is the embodiment of the dream and vision of Sant chavara who was a nineteenth century educatuonist and social reformer in India. He was honored by the goverment of India by releasing a postal stemp in 1986 with his image.
